Bed shopping can be overwhelming. Picking a mattress, a bed frame, matching decor combined with an endless amount of differing styles, advice and prices.
Although, ultimately your first major decision is, what size mattress should you get? A Single or King Single is one my most asked questions in my past experience as a sales associate for a company specialising in bedroom furniture and mattresses.
Now it is time to settle this debate once and for all.

1. Why Size Matters
One of the biggest selling points (or in some cases…negatives) of the king single is the additional space. The King Single size offers an additional 15cm both in length and width. Therefore, if you have the extra space in the bedroom, it is the perfect size for growing children and teenagers. Although you may feel that the king single is way too big for your toddler at the moment, you need to take into consideration that children grow... and they grow fast. The King Single is the same length as both a queen and king, so you will never have to worry about your child ever outgrowing the length of the bed… (unless your child manages to grow 2 metres tall), we can assume that you will be safe.
Given that you will not have to worry about your child outgrowing the king single bed, if you choose a timeless design, it will also mean you may not have to replace your bed in the future. Rather than only needing to replace the mattress which often has a lifespan of 5-10 years (depending on the quality of the mattress).
So less stress for you in the future when you will inevitably be bombarded by mattress sales associates explaining to you all the different feels, quality of the foams and springs in the mattress. Trust me… you will already be overwhelmed by simply mattress shopping.
2. More options— You will find that you will be spoilt for choices if you opt for a king single. The options are limitless
It has been a growing trend in the bedding industry to move away from single beds and supplying more king single beds. As a result, you will find that there will be more options for you to choose from if you opt for a king single over a single bed.
This is especially true for those wanting a little extra storage space. Gaslift and drawer options are more commonly found for King Single Beds. And more often than not, if you like a style in a single size bed, there will be a king single size bed option available for you to purchase. However on the reverse, many king single designs are not offered in a single size.

3. For families with little ones… perfect for bedtime stories and sleepovers
With a single bed, you might be a little tight on space. An additional 15cm will let you comfortably snug in with your child whether you are simply reading them a bedtime story or if you have to protect them from all the monsters under the bed and closet. You will be able to sleep comfortably without compromising each other's space. So, a win for Mum and Dad.
4. No need to worry about fun and playful quilt covers…
The wonderful thing about King Singles, is the array of different quilt covers available for your child. No matter what stage in life your child is in, you will be able to find a style that suits them. Although be mindful that for a King Single, you will need to size up to a double doona.
Doubles… come in both playful designs as well as more timeless designs suitable for teens.
Double quilt covers often range from very differing styles. You will be able to find plenty of linen options for all different age groups and genders. Whether you have a 5 year old who is into princesses and fairies, or a 16 year old who is more into neutral colours, you will never be short of choice when purchasing linen.

Our Final Verdict
The amazing thing about King Single Beds is that it is a size that grows with your child, through all the stages of their youth. No matter the age, it will never be a size too big or small for a child or teenager, which is why it remains our ultimate winner in the battle between king single and single bed sizes.
